TESAT’s Optical Communication Terminals successfully passed Interoperability Testing for the Space Development Agency’s (SDA) Tranche 1 Transport Layer.
In 2020, ESA and TESAT launched a development programme to improve the functionalities and design of MPMs. This programme laid the foundation for the final design and qualification process for the Quad-MPM.
The ESA- and EC-supported EAGLE-1 LEO satellite will be equipped with innovative security features developed by TESAT, Europe’s leading laser communication technology company.

Tesat-Spacecom recently completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) of their Optical Communication Terminals (OCTs) for satellites as part of Space Development Agency’s (SDA) Tranche 1 Transport Layer (T1TL). Lockheed Martin, a prime contractor for the agency’s tranche 0 (TLT0) and TLT1 satellites, and the SDA were on site at TESAT for the review.

Backnang, 31.08.2021: TESAT’s Constellation Laser Communication Terminal (ConLCT80) optical modem was successfully tested at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory connecting with the Space Development Agency (SDA) reference modem over fiber optic, which assures the interoperability of all optical payloads of the different manufacturers. The test was carried out at the optical level, explicitly testing coding and framing according to the SDA standard, data rate, wavelength compatibility, tracking tone, waveform capture and continuous data transfer. Future testing is planned to demonstrate space optical communication between termi-als, as they will operate in space aboard SDA’s Tranche 0 Transport Layer constellation.
