National Satellite Conference Bonn

Vogelperspektive SatKon 2017

On March 26th, 2017, it was time to head for Bonn - with our packed truck on its way to the former federal capital. On the same evening, our Laser Communication Terminal already took its place at the DLR booth at the Maritim Hotel.

On Monday, 27 March 2017, the conference “Raumfahrt bewegt” took place there. Under the motto “Mobility and Space - Opportunities for the Future”, the topic of space exploration as a global infrastructure was stimulated by satellite-based navigation, earth observation, communication and technology development. With this conference, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, in cooperation with the DLR Raumfahrtmanagement, launched the "Raumfahrt bewegt!"-initiative. The aim of the event was to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the sectors of mobility, logistics and space, to create synergies and strategic alliances. So where could our Communication Terminal have been better off than at this conference?

On the Monday noon, we packed our LCT again and transported it to the Kameha Grand Hotel in Bonn, where the construction for the National Satellite Conference 2017 was in full swing. Our stand had the perfect location in front of the big lecture room. In addition to our large LCT, we also presented the mock-ups from OSIRIS 3rd & 2nd Generation as well as the 3D printing model of the Cubesat and the accompanying mini-LCT. The highlight of our stand was again the subsystem, which attracted the attention of many conference participants by its size and complexity. Rounded up with various roll-ups, Tesat-Spacecom's product diversity was impressively presented. On both conference days our stand was very well frequented and all colleagues were constantly in conversation with interested parties and partners from the industry.

The opening of the conference on March 28 was taken over by Ministerial Director Dr. Wolfgang Scheremet, Head of Division BMWi. Immediately afterwards, Andreas Hammer, our CEO, gave a lecture on “10 Years of Lasercom - and the Future?”, followed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reiner Anderl, from the Technical University of Darmstadt, on the subject of “Industry 4.0”. The afternoon was filled with workshops on New Space, short talks and the panel discussion “Satellite Communication: Will tomorrow be different?”.

Tuesday, 29th March began with lectures on mega constellations, followed by a panel discussion “New Space - how does German space travel meet the new trend?”. Andreas Hammer was also on the stage to discuss with Ernst Pfeiffer (KMU) and Thomas Koch (BMWi) together with Dr. Gerd Gruppe (DLR), and Andreas Lindenthal (OHB). In parallel, several short lectures were held, followed by a lecture on quantum cryptography.
